Visitations

Yesterday, it was a year since my father's funeral. Last night, my husband and I attended my son's high school orientation. Feels like time is on overdrive these days. Live each day to it's fullest. Tell your family that you love them. Time stops for no one, so live your life y'all! :)

I don't know what other folks believe in but I believe that sometimes while we are living our lives we get little visitations from those who have passed on. People show up in dreams. You may all of the sudden feel their presence while doing day to day activities. You'll see a mannerism or expression in your kids that reminds you of something your departed loved one would do. When these moments happen to me, I make it a special point now to acknowledge them. I say thank you. It's like a special nod or wink from someone on the other side.

Anyway, a couple of months ago I had a visitation while I was painting. I am not a trained artist. I enjoy dabbling with paints and seeing what happens when I play around with them. Faces are usually my starting point and so that's what I began with for this particular piece. Eyes appeared. A nose. A mouth. Wrinkles. I played with color a bit. I tweaked the expression in the eyes and then paused. I looked at the face and smiled. I said "Hi, Dad."

  1. Another belief we have in common! One day we'll have to really talk about some of these things. Love you, cousin. I feel quite sure your Dad is right there with you! <3

    1. Thank you so much Bonnie for your sweet comment. I had a feeling that we probably shared this same belief. Love you, too.

  2. Yes, I feel this so much. Sometimes the veil between the worlds is thin.
