Image
For details about The Book Of Me, Written By You project created by Julie Goucher, of the Anglers Rest blog, please refer to this link:  http://www.anglers-rest.net/book-of-me-written-by-you.html . Prompt 4 - Favorite Season Do you have one? Why? A Happy Memory or association Close your eyes and imagine your favourite season – write down what you see, feel, hear. Image courtesy of Microsoft Office Images My favorite season I would have to say is Autumn. I love seeing the colors of the leaves against a bright crisp blue sky.  The air is just the right temperature -- not too hot, not too cold. It's just the perfect time of year for exploring the woods which I didn't do much of when I was a kid but love doing now with my family. What Autumn means to me now? The crunch of leaves under my feet. Picking apples. Apple, Sweet Potato and Pumpkin pie. Baking...lots of baking. Family gatherings. Kids back to school. My birthday...in October.  Hooray! My daught

Happy Pie, Happy Life!

This post is dedicated to Erika.  Happy pie, happy life! Before baking. The finished product. We are still working on all those apples we picked two weeks ago. I have to bake another pie tomorrow because there is only one slice left out of this one.  If you missed the pictures of our apple picking trip, here's the link: Something About Me Saturday: Apple Picking With The Family

It's been a busy week y'all so it's been hard to make time for genealogy. In between my running errands, I have been reviewing what collections are available state by state on FamilySearch.org and I have found some new goodies. Hooray! This is the marriage license of my 1st cousin 2x removed, Harkless Wooten and his bride Clifford McGhee.   Harkless was the son of maternal great grandmother's sister, Mary Jones Wooten Price. The following snippet is from his obituary:  "He was a master chef at the Dunes Club, the Coral Bay Club, the John Yancey Restarurant all on Bogue Banks, and the Atlantic

Something About Me Saturday: Apple Picking With The Family

Last weekend the family and I went apple picking on a picture perfect day. Here in my neck of the woods, apples are great this year. All week I've been making apple sauce and today I baked my first homemade apple pie. Yummy! Here are some pictures from our visit to Lone Maple Farm. I just love days like this. "Hold on a second." "I gotta strike a pose" The guys getting in on the action. "There are some good apples here mom." "Check this one out dad." Happy husband. "Everybody say apples!"

Image
For details about The Book Of Me, Written By You project created by Julie Goucher, of the Anglers Rest blog, please refer to to this link:   http://www.anglers-rest.net/book-of-me-written-by-you.html Prompt 3:  Describe your physical self. Your size – clothes size:  Size: 14  Height: 5'6"  I am a curvy girl. There is more of me to love now but for moment I am okay with that. In regards to wardrobe, I look for things that are comfortable and easy to pull together. I don't like ironing so I generally look for fabrics that don't wrinkle. My go to dress is the Maxi-dress. I am lucky because my husband owns a store and he carries a number of beautiful flowy dresses that have become the core of my wardrobe. They look great but feel as comfortable as a night gown.  This is when I realize that I am definitely the granddaughter of Mary Horton. My maternal grandma in her later years was known to rock out a house dress or two. Her favorite one was a royal blue number

Image courtesy of Microsoft Office Images Okay, I am going to out myself here. I had been meaning to visit my local FamilySearch Center for the longest time and somehow just never got around to getting there. Truth be told, I didn't quite know what to expect.
