When A Genealogy Book Arrives In The Mail --How Did I Get Here? My Amazing Genealogy Journey

I get such a rush when a genealogy book arrives in the mail. My eyes brighten and my heart beats faster. I think to myself, "There's stuff I might learn about my ancestors in there!" I just might get a better understanding of what their lives were like.

Here's the latest edition to my genealogy library, The Heritage of Sampson County, North Carolina. Editor: Oscar M Bizzell, Sampson County Historical Society. Specifically, I am looking for more information regarding the family line of a Patrick Murphy of Sampson County.

 In my post, Finding The Right Connection --Murphy Line: Part One, I shared that I have a DNA cousin who I believe our probable common ancestor is Patrick Murphy born about 1720 in Scotland who eventually settled in an area that eventually became part of Sampson County, NC. 

 The book looks like it will be a good read. At first glance, it appears to have quite a bit of information regarding the formation the Sampson County. In addition, it has some of the genealogies of many of the founding families of the area. All I have to do now is find some time to do some reading. 

 The problem is that the only spare time I have for reading usually falls around bed time and then this happens.

    Too funny. I do the same thing. I send out for one and wait eagerly for it to arrive and then when it gets here I fall asleep reading it. ��

It's Been A Long Time

I wanted to say hello to everyone. I know it's been a long time since my last post. The world is in a much different space from when I last wrote on March 2nd. So am I. I hope and pray that all of you out there are safe and taking care of yourselves and your loved ones. Sorry that genealogy has kind of fallen by the wayside.  Please stay vigilant and wear your mask when you go out. Keep the hand sanitizer handy. Wash your hands. Amanuensis Monday: Charity Ambrose Deed to Mt. Olive Methodist Church

At last, some genealogy right?!! LOL. I decided to jump back into things with an Amanuensis Monday post. I have to thank a fellow genealogy friend of mine who helped me out a couple of months ago, Nathaniel Glasgow. He brought to my attention a deed which documents the sale of about an acre land from a woman named Charity Ambrose  to the trustees of Mt. Olive AME Zion Church in Riverdale, NC. Guess who's listed among the trustees. My maternal 3rd great grandfather and his son, Mortimer and Alfred Mitchell.  State of North Carolina}      Craven County This deed made this 6th day of November in the year 1893 by Charity Ambrose of the first part of Craven County, and Mortimer Mitchell, Charles F. Hall, Anthony Dennis,  Edward Hooker, Killis Green, David Sampson, Phillis Borden, Ezekial Pastuer, and A. F. Mitchell of Craven County and State of North Carolina of the second part , Trustees of the Mt. Olive Church, African Methodist Episocpal Zion Church in America of No. 6

Pink Invitational 2020

Here's pictures of our beautiful girl back from injury. In the fall, she broke a bone in her left foot which took a long time to heal. These are pictures from her second competition of the season, Pink Invitational 2020. She's getting stronger every week. I loved watching her compete and hanging out with her teammates. They are so supportive of one another. No medals this time for her but she gained a bunch of her confidence back.  She competed late on Saturday February 22, 2020 so that involved an overnight stay in Philadelphia. I don't like driving long distances at night especially if I'm tired. The following day we spent time sightseeing and checking out a Blick art supply store that was near our hotel. OMG! If you love doing art, then you love Blick!
