Yes, That's Me Fencing!

Yes, That's Me Fencing! --How Did I Get Here? My Amazing Genealogy Journey

I mentioned not so long ago on this blog that I started doing fencing again over the summer. It seems like it was just the thing I was missing. I have to say it has been challenging. I am still trying to figure out how to fence in the body that I have now. You know the one that has birthed a couple of kids and is bit slower and heavier than it used to be. I wrap my knees now before practice and have a bottle of ibuprofen ready for afterwards. The good news is I've lost a few pounds and toned up quite a bit.

This whole process I am going through right now is about challenging myself and leaving my comfort zone behind. Being an introvert makes it all too easy for me to want to just stay up in my house and do nothing. Well that's not exactly true. I have to take care of the house and be there for my kids and husband.

Oh yeah and there's that darn
genealogy addiction that keeps acting up.

Yes, that's me fencing up top on the left. I attended a tournament at Binghamton University, my alma mater, this past Sunday. Initially, I had planned to fence only one weapon, foil. I was still feeling energized after being eliminated early on in the competition. I thought to myself, "Hey why not?! I'll fence another weapon." So I signed up to fence epee too. In retrospect, probably not the best idea because that energized feeling I had quickly wore off. I forgot about the adrenaline rush you get from competing. When it came time for me to fence again, my mind had checked out. I was daydreaming about watching Netflix and relaxing on my couch. Needless to say, I didn't fence my best but the important thing is that I fenced. I got off my butt and was doing something I love to do. I will remain positive and will keep practicing. Got to keep moving the body!

Here's a few more pictures from Sunday:
