Tombstone Tuesday: Solomon Allen's Grave

Solomon Allen
May 4, 1824--May 10, 1926
Gravestone reads:
 "Died May 5, 1926
Age 100 Yrs

He followed virtue 
As his truest guide.
Lived as a Christian
As a Christian Died"

Solomon's connection to me is through his daughter Chloe Ann Allen who was married to my 2nd great grand uncle Alfred Mitchell. Alfred Mitchell was the brother to my 2nd great grandmother Rosa Mitchell Jones. Solomon Allen's grave is located in the old African American Cemetery behind Mt Olive AME Zion Church in Riverdale, Craven, NC.

Solomon's death certificate provides a different date for his death.

Looks like my 2nd great grand uncle was the informant.

I wanted to say hello to everyone. I know it's been a long time since my last post. The world is in a much different space from when I last wrote on March 2nd. So am I. My 23andMe Results!

I took full advantage and ordered a test for my husband as well as one for myself. Well, my results came back late last week and I found them reaffirming and interesting all at the same time.  Image courtesy of 23andme Maternal Haplogroup Result: L3e3b In a prior post, My MtDNA Result Are Back! , I revealed the results of my first MtDNA test. I tested with FamilyTreeDNA last year and they determined that my Haplogroup was L3e3b. It was reassuring to see that 23andMe came up with the same result this time around. Pink Invitational 2020

Here's pictures of our beautiful girl back from injury. In the fall, she broke a bone in her left foot which took a long time to heal. These are pictures from her second competition of the season, Pink Invitational 2020. She's getting stronger every week. I loved watching her compete and hanging out with her teammates. They are so supportive of one another. No medals this time for her but she gained a bunch of her confidence back.  She competed late on Saturday February 22, 2020 so that involved an overnight stay in Philadelphia. I don't like driving long distances at night especially if I'm tired. The following day we spent time sightseeing and checking out a Blick art supply store that was near our hotel. OMG!
