Christmas in July

This is going to be a short post because I have to get the kids off to the babysitter this morning. I have to say, one of my favorite things in genealogy is when you get a surprise in the mail. Some new records, pictures, perhaps a book regarding family history...whatever it is I just love the thrill of waiting for some new treasure to arrive to me. I had taken a little break recently from doing deep research, with going away on vacation and helping out my best friend who just moved to my area, it wasn't on the forefront of my mind. And then there was an email that just popped into my in box the other day that notified me that I was about to have a bit of Christmas in July. My researcher friend who had taken pictures of the Mt Olive Church Cemetery graves in Riverdale, NC, said she went back out to the cemetery and rinsed the graves with water so she could get a clearer sense of the inscriptions. She took more pictures there and of my 2nd great grandfather Thomas Duke Harrison's home in New Bern. Oh my goodness, I want that package to be here right now. LOL. Oh well I will be patient. Have a great day everyone in genealogy land.

I wanted to say hello to everyone. I know it's been a long time since my last post. The world is in a much different space from when I last wrote on March 2nd. So am I. I hope and pray that all of you out there are safe and taking care of yourselves and your loved ones. Amanuensis Monday: Charity Ambrose Deed to Mt. Olive Methodist Church

At last, some genealogy right?!! LOL. I decided to jump back into things with an Amanuensis Monday post. I have to thank a fellow genealogy friend of mine who helped me out a couple of months ago, Nathaniel Glasgow. He brought to my attention a deed which documents the sale of about an acre land from a woman named Charity Ambrose  to the trustees of Mt. Olive AME Zion Church in Riverdale, NC. Guess who's listed among the trustees. My maternal 3rd great grandfather and his son, Mortimer and Alfred Mitchell.  State of North Carolina}      Craven County This deed made this 6th day of November in the year 1893 by Charity Ambrose of the first part of Craven County, and Mortimer Mitchell, Charles F. Hall, Anthony Dennis,  Edward Hooker, Killis Green, David Sampson, Phillis Borden, Ezekial Pastuer, and A. F. Mitchell of Craven County and State of North Carolina of the second part , Trustees of the Mt. Olive Church, African Methodist Episocpal Zion Church in America of No. 6

Pink Invitational 2020

Here's pictures of our beautiful girl back from injury. In the fall, she broke a bone in her left foot which took a long time to heal. These are pictures from her second competition of the season, Pink Invitational 2020. She's getting stronger every week. I loved watching her compete and hanging out with her teammates. They are so supportive of one another. No medals this time for her but she gained a bunch of her confidence back.  She competed late on Saturday February 22, 2020 so that involved an overnight stay in Philadelphia. I don't like driving long distances at night especially if I'm tired. The following day we spent time sightseeing and checking out a Blick art supply store that was near our hotel. OMG! If you love doing art, then you love Blick!
