Looking Forward To Figuring Out This Connection

Yesterday, I featured two of the deeds of my 2nd great grand uncle Alfred Mitchell on this blog. If you missed that post, here's the link:  Amanuensis Monday on Tuesday: Alfred Mitchell --Deeds #1 & #2.

On those deeds, there was a name that intrigued me to due to recent updates to my AncestryDNA connections.

Before I go into that, I just want to say that I have this theory about the ancestors. Some of those folks that have crossed over I think are just chomping at the bit to get information to their living folks. I think if they find someone researching a place or person they were associated with then they figure out a way to get us to "speak their names" and get that information passed on to the right people.

Lately, I have been spending a lot of time reviewing my research on my Riverdale, NC ancestors. Many of my most recent posts have featured folks who once lived in that area.

Here's where it gets interesting. On yesterday's post, one of the names mentioned on Alfred Mitchell's deeds was a Scipio Toodles. Now unique names have a way of making an impression on me. That name in particular seemed familiar and I quickly realized why. Now lets go to AncestryDNA.

Sipp Toodle... Hmmm?!

When did this new cousin of mine appear on my connections list? I actually don't know the answer to that question. It had been a while since I last checked. What I do know is that I decided to look this past Friday to see if there was anyone new on my list of DNA matches. My newly found cousin had a Sipp Toodle listed on their tree and that's why the name Scipio Toodles seemed familiar to me.

I didn't get a chance to write to the administrator of T.T's tree until this evening. I have a couple of theories on how we may be related. We share a number of the same folks on our family trees. Hopefully, we can put our heads together and figure this out. I'll keep you posted if I find anything out.

  1. It is great that you looked at your tree, your DNA results while looking at the documents. This a good point to make when you have names on documents relative to your ancestors.

  2. Don't you just hate misspelled names? it really vexes me especially when trying to trace ancestors over the records and cross referencing with other relatives. Glad you are able to put 2 & 2 together.

    1. Yeah I hate misspelled names too Wayne. They have tripped me up quite a few times along the way when searching for records. Oh well, I guess it keeps it interesting. :)

  4. That is a great idea. I also type in possible slaveowners, some of the men who the slaves were sold to and one overseer because I just never know. Especially with my Southern matches. I'll try this to! Great Thinking!
